End Stage Renal Disease Life Expectancy

2013-04-16 09:42

For end stage renal disease patients, the damages of their kidneys have been permanent and patients often suffer a lot from nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, malnutrition, skin itching, swelling, anemia, etc. What is more, the disease can be life-threatening, therefore the life expectancy of end stage renal disease is a common concern among the patients.

End stage renal disease is also called stage 5 CKD. It is the final stage of chronic kidney disease with most advanced renal damages. It is diagnosed as end stage renal disease when GFR falls below 15. Besides the above mentioned symptoms, patients will develop a series of complications which pose great threaten to the patient’s life quality and life expectancy.

If left untreated, there is little chance that the end stage renal disease patients can survive longer than weeks. Effective and early treatment can greatly prolong the patient’s life expectancy.

Dialysis can not cure end stage renal disease, but it can help extend the patient’s life expectancy. Adequate dialysis can enable the patients another 3-5 years. Dialysis should not be stopped without the doctor’s permission. It has been reported that 20% patients die after dialysis is stopped without kidney transplant or other effective treatment.

Kidney transplant can restore the patient’s kidney functions so as to help patients get rid of dialysis and lead a normal life again. But it can not cure the disease, neither. There is a certain life span for the transplanted kidney because of organ rejection, various infections, complications of immunosuppressant drugs and many other factors.

It counts a lot to receive effective as early as possible so as to prevent or at least delay the progression into complete renal failure. If end stage renal disease is detected and treated early, there is still great chance that patients need not to undergo dialysis or kidney transplant. More natural and conservative treatment options---Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy and immunotherapy can help repair damaged renal tissues, restore renal structures and strengthen kidney functions so as to help improve the patient’s life quality, prolong their life span and help them avoid dialysis and kidney transplant.
